Types of Visas
  • For international students, Australia introduced a simplified student visa framework (SSVF) on July 1st 2016.
  • Independent ELICOS Visa (Subclass-570): English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students
  • Students on this visa category (Subclass 570) are allowed to stay for the complete duration of their studies, plus a set period determined by the length of the student's course.
    - If the course duration is less than 10 Months, the student will get visa full length of period and 1 month extra.
    - If the course durations are more than 10 months and above, students will get visa full length of the course and 2 months extra. (Important factor here is where the course finishing between January and October)
    - In case of Course finishing in November or December and course duration are more than 10 months or more visa will be the complete duration of the course and their visa expires next year 15th March.
  • In this category, they can bring their spouse, children and extended family.
  • Work rights: Students are allowed in this category for 20 hours per week in term time and full time for half term. Family members are allowed 20 hours per week.
  • Schools Sector Visa (Subclass-571): This category is for Primary and Secondary students.
  • Students on this visa category (Subclass 571) are allowed to stay for the complete duration of their studies, plus a set period determined by the length of the student's course.
    - If the course duration is less than 10 Months, the student will get visa full length of period and 1 month extra.
    - If the course durations are more than 10 months and above, students will get visa full length of the course and 2 months extra. (Important factor here is where the course finishing between January and October)
    - In case of Course finishing in November or December and course duration are more than 10 months or more visa will be the complete duration of the course and their visa expires next year 15th March.
  • Vocational Education and Training Sector Visa (subclass 572): This category is for Vocational or Training such as Vocational Diploma. (This category is not for ELICOS applicants)
  • Students on this visa category (Subclass 572) are allowed to stay for the complete duration of their studies, plus a set period determined by the length of the student's course.
  • - If the course duration is less than 10 Months, the student will get visa full length of period and 1 month extra.
    - If the course durations are more than 10 months and above, students will get visa full length of the course and 2 months extra. (Important factor here is where the course finishing between January and October)
    - In case of Course finishing in November or December and course duration are more than 10 months or more visa will be the complete duration of the course and their visa expires next year 15th March.

  • Higher Education Sector Visa (Subclass 573): This category is for who want to study their Graduation or Masters in Australian Universities.
  • Students on this visa category (Subclass 573) are allowed to stay for the complete duration of their studies, plus a set period determined by the length of the student's course.
    - If the course duration is less than 10 Months, student will get visa full length of period and 1 month extra.
    - If the course durations are more than 10 months and above, the students will get visa full length of the course and 2 months extra.

  • Postgraduate Research Sector Visa (Subclass 574): This category is for who are seeking to study their Research Masters or PhD or Doctoral programmes.
  • Students on this visa category (Subclass 574) are allowed to stay for the complete duration of their studies, plus a set period determined by the length of the student's course.
    - If the course duration is less than 10 Months, the student will get visa full length of period and 7 months extra.
    - If the course durations are more than 10 months and above, students will get visa full length of the course and 8 months extra.
    (Important factor here is where the course finishing between January and October)
    - In case of Course finishing in November or December and course duration are more than 10 months or more visa will be the complete duration of the course and their visa expires next year 15th September.
  • In this category, they can bring their spouse, children and extended family.
  • Work rights: Students are allowed in this category of full-time work during their research period. Family members are allowed full-time work.

  • A Personal Statement/ Statement of purpose (SoP)/Research Proposals for Research and PhD programmes.
  • English language requirements such as the IELTS, TOEFL, PTE
  • For bellow Degree programmes-
    - IELTS (Academic) Overall score 5.5 and in all modules minimum 5.0 band
    - TOFEL: Overall score 55 (Listening: 9, Speaking: 16, Reading: 10 & Writing: 18)
    - Pearson Test of English (PTE): Overall score required 42-49 and minimum not less than 40 in every section
    - University of Cambridge - Advanced (CAE): Overall score of 162, in all individual modules band not less than 154
    - VU English - English for Academic Purposes (EAP - Level 4): achieved
  • For Degree Programmes –
    - IELTS (Academic) Overall score 6.0 and in all modules minimum 6.0 band
    - TOFEL: Overall score 67 (Listening: 12, Speaking: 18, Reading: 15 & Writing: 21)
    - Pearson Test of English (PTE): Overall score required 50-57 and minimum not less than 50 in every section
    - University of Cambridge - Advanced (CAE): Overall score of 169, in all individual modules band not less than 169
    - VU English - English for Academic Purposes (EAP - Level 5): achieved
  • For graduate certificates & graduate diplomas -
    - IELTS (Academic) Overall score 6.5 and in all modules minimum 6.0 band
    - TOFEL: Overall score 79 (Listening: 19, Speaking: 19, Reading: 18 & Writing: 22)
    - Pearson Test of English (PTE): Overall score required 58-64 and minimum not less than 50 in every section
    - University of Cambridge - Advanced (CAE): Overall score of 176, in all individual modules band not less than 169

  • For Masters Programmes -

  • For Research Programmes -

    IELTS, TOEFL, PTE and CAE: These tests must be taken no more than two years prior to commencing your course start. English language evidence exemptions
  • You do not need to provide evidence of an English test score with your visa application if one of the following applies:
  • you are a citizen and hold a passport from UK, USA, Canada, NZ or Republic of Ireland
  • you are an applicant who is a Foreign Affairs or, Defence sponsored student or a Secondary Exchange student (AASES)
  • you are enrolled in a principal course of study that is a registered school course, a standalone English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS), or a registered post-graduate research course
  • you have completed at least five years’ study in one or more of the following countries: Australia, UK, USA, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, or the Republic of Ireland
  • in the two years before applying for the student visa, you completed, in Australia and in the English language, either the Senior Secondary Certificate of Education or a substantial component of a course leading to a qualification from the Australian Qualifications Framework at the Certificate IV or higher level, while you held a student visa.
    You must give us evidence of your English language skills with your application if required. If you do not, we could refuse your visa.

  • The GTE (Genuine Temporary Entry Requirement) person who satisfies the genuine temporary entrant criterion for a student visa. Student Visa applications require the applicant to support and satisfy the intention to genuinely stay in Australia temporarily.

  • Evidence of Financial Capacity/Bank Statements/Financial evidence (Bank statements from last 3 years and if you are working payslips and related bank statements, certified accountant letter to confirming your financial resources, if it is a Bank loan you need a letter from Bank to confirming your loan)
