Types of Visa
- C type study visa: Students who want to study less than 3 months they need to apply this category
- D type study visa: Student who want to study more than 3 months they need to apply this category
- If you are a non-EEA national coming to study in Ireland, you must be enrolled in a full-time course on The Interim List of Eligible Programmes (ILEP)
- International students who are applied for a study degree that lasts longer than three months, you will need to register at the local Garda National Immigration Bureau (GNIB) as soon as you arrive in Ireland
- International (non-EU/ EEA) students are able to work 20 hours per week during semester and 40 hours per week during the scheduled holidays (Since 1 September 2016 students holding a valid immigration stamp 2 are permitted to work full time per under employment law provisions during the months of June, July, August and September and from 15 December to 15 January inclusive. At all other times they will be limited to working 20 hours per week.)
- International students are not allowed to bring their family members or Family Reunification. Some exceptional cases may allow
- For visa required students your husband, wife, civil partner or child will need to make their own Visa application and this application will be judged on its own merit.
- You can apply for a study visa up to 3 months before your date of travel to Ireland

- You may be required to provide your Biometrics information as part of your student visa application process.
- Application process time in generally 4 to 8 weeks but it all depends on which country you applied and when?

Documents Required for Student Admission

- You must provide all your education and other documents should be original language version and the English translation.
- Evidence of your level of English: For International students applying for a study visa will be required to prove your English ability to get admission into the chosen course. Every institute or university has its own requirements. As basic requirements of B1 and equivalent for Pre-degree programmes and B2 and above for Bachelor and above programmes.

- Undergraduate- if applying to do a Medicine degree at undergraduate level you’ll need to do the Health Professions Admission Test (HPAT) assessment. This is a selection test designed to assess a candidate’s potential aptitude to study in the Allied Health Professions.
- Postgraduate - if applying to Graduate Entry Medicine Degree you’ll need to do the Graduate Medical School Admissions Test (GAMSAT).
Documents Required for Student Visa
- Current Original passport/any previous passports
- Two recent colour passport sized photographs not more than 6 months old (Both photos must be 45-50mm in height and 35-38mm in width. They must both show a close up of your face and the top of the shoulders. Your face must take up 70% to 80% of the photo.)
- A signed letter of application including your full contact details (stating the reason you want to come to Ireland)
- Evidence that you are enrolled on a privately funded course/Letter of Acceptance from the college/university
- Evidence accounting for any gaps in your educational history
- Proof of payment of the registration and tuition fees
- Copies of all academic qualifications, exam results required for university study
- English language proficiency certificate
- Financial requirements for study visas:
- Proof you have sufficient funds to support your stay in Ireland without recourse to public funds, or the reliance on casual employment
- You must show evidence that you have immediate access to at least €7,000. This is the estimated cost of living in Ireland for a student for one academic year.
- You must also demonstrate that you and/or your sponsor(s) have ready access to at least €7,000 for each subsequent year of your studies in addition to course fees for each of those years.
- If you the duration of your course is less than 6 months you must have access to €500 per month of your stay or €3000 whichever is the lesser
- You must provide an up-to-date bank statement, showing what money has been paid into and out of the account over the last six months. You must submit this whether you are covering the costs of your studies
- Bank statements must be on headed paper. Where original bank statements are not available, internet printouts will be accepted once every page has been notarised by the bank and the statement is accompanied by a letter from the bank confirming its authenticity. Handwritten entries or details on bank statements will not be accepted.
- Details of your sponsor required where applicable and their finances.
- Medical Insurance (the insurance coverage covers the student at a minimum of 25,000 EUR)
- Commitment to leave Ireland on the expiry of your visa
- Police clearance certificate (Where it required)
- Previous visa refusals, if any
- Draft for application fees, if applicable
